Hutton Hill Wood – May 2026
The first foray of 2026 focused on several habitats across the reserve, including woodland, pasture and open fields. Recent dry weather meant larger fungi were scarce, but the group concentrated on smaller species that are often overlooked later in the season. Although the species list was relatively modest, a range of fungi associated with dead wood, leaf litter and grassland was recorded. The afternoon included microscope work and identification sessions, allowing specimens collected in the field to be examined in greater detail and providing an opportunity to study some of the less conspicuous species present at the site.
