Shapwick Heath – August 2025

After a dry summer, recent rain meant there was at least some moisture in the reserve, though conditions were still far from ideal. Early finds were mostly common species in damp areas, but the list grew steadily as different habitats were explored, including wet woodland and meadow. A small specimen found on a woodchip path was collected for closer study and later proved to be an important record. In addition to the fungi, several notable invertebrates were seen along the route. The day finished back indoors, where specimens were examined more closely under microscopes.
